It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week sponsored by the Book Date at http://bookdate.blogspot.ca/.
Last week I read:
Worth Getting in Bed For? Yes.
|This was not my favorite Pendergast novel. I think if I had read the two novels featuring Prendergast’ s brother Diogenes, I would have enjoyed it more. It left a character hanging from the middle of the book hanging until the end with little to no explanation. The characters are well-developed and I love the series. Not a failure by any means, just not a favorite.

The Underground Railroad (Oprah’s Book Club): A Novel Hardcover – August 2, 2016
Worth Getting in Bed For? Yes. This is a clever re-imagining of the underground railroad as an actual railroad underground. At times brutal when depicting the harsh treatment of slaves, this is a culmination of history from the sterilization of women to the development of the Klan. It’s a page-Turner and only falls short when some of the characters have a soliloquy, the slave catcher for example, that becomes seemingly unrelated. The characters are strongly developed and the plot flows. This is the first novel I’ve read by Whitehead but I will be reading more of his work.

Worth Getting in Bed For? This is a graphic and raw look at drug addiction, specifically meth, and sex addiction while the Author comes to terms with his HIV diagnosis. What drew me to this memoir is the Author’s climb of Mount Kilimanjaro and trek of the Camino de Santiago . Both of those places intrigue me and the Author attempts to complete both while reconciling his spiritual beliefs and health. If the subjects interest you, it is worth a read.
